Group wants scruitiny of all federal spending
A national group is calling on federal lawmakers to look at all areas to balance the budget.
Tom Schatz is the president of Citizens Against Government Waste. He says they can make cuts to some defense programs, without risking national security. He says adjusting some eligibility standards for entitlement programs would also save money, but eliminating redundancies should be the top priority.
Schatz says his group supports a bill from Congressman Reid Ribble that would suspend the pay of lawmakers, if they don't pass a budget. He says that's a basic function of any organization, but the Senate hasn't approved one in four years.
Schatz says more than a decade ago, his group pushed for a bill that would've forced lawmakers to pass a balanced budget, or else they wouldn't get paid.
