Supreme Court declines Schmidt appeal

A man accused of killing his estranged wife and wounding her mother, in Grand Chute, lost his bid to continue his appeal.

The state Supreme Court is refusing to take up Scott Schmidt's request for a new trial. He's serving a life prison sentence for convictions of first-degree intentional homicide and first-degree reckless endangerment, for killing Kelly Wing-Schmidt, and shooting her mother.

It happened in April of 2009, when Schmidt and Wing-Schmidt were going through a divorce.

Court records say Schmidt was jealous that Wing-Schmidt was seeing someone else, and he went to their Grand Chute home to confront her. He shot Wing-Schmidt several times, and wounded her mother.

Schmidt claims a judge should have let him present more evidence, and his attorney was ineffective.
