Ban on transportation fund raid progresses

A proposed constitutional amendment that would ban future raids on the state transportation fund took another step forward.

An Assembly committee signed off on the measure yesterday.

Rep. Keith Ripp of Lodi is the author, and he says using the money that's designated for roads, to pay for other things, can have a long-term impact on the transportation system.

If the Legislature approves the amendment, it would go before voters in a statewide referendum, in November of 2014.
