Overall deer hunting numbers up 5%
Bow hunters bagged a record number of bucks last year, and
the overall deer harvest from the bow and gun seasons rose by five percent.
Preliminary numbers from the DNR show that bow hunters killed nearly 46,000 bucks. The total deer harvest for all seasons was nearly 367,000.
Brian Dhuey is the manager of DNR wildlife surveys. He says in general, hunters felt pretty good about the season.
Dhuey says a larger deer herd and mild weather contributed to the successful season.
