Hortonville schools look to keep up with growth
Hortonville school leaders are asking voters to help
the district deal with the growth in the community.
The district is holding a referendum in April to build a third elementary school, and expand the middle and high schools.
Greenville has led the Fox Cities in "new home construction" over the last seven years, and district administrator Heidi Schmidt says they don't have any extra classrooms at their two elementary schools. She says they considered buying or renting portable classrooms, before they moved forward with a study of their space needs.
The new elementary school would be on district-owned land, at the corner of Highways 76 and JJ.
The referendum asks for nearly $25.5 million, and the elementary school project accounts for about $15 million of that.
The projects at the high school would cost nearly $6.4 million, and Schmidt says they include creating a main entrance, for safety reasons.
The plans also call for a four-classroom addition at the middle school, and a transportation facility on the same site as the new elementary school.
