Brown Co. sheriff launches online reports

The Brown County sheriff's department is offering a new tool for people to report minor crimes.

Officials announced yesterday that victims of vandalism, ID theft, threatening or harassing phone calls, or lost property, can now file a report online.

Sheriff John Gossage says those kinds of calls are a low priority, and it can take deputies hours to respond to them. But he says people can still call the non-emergency line if they want to speak with a deputy in-person.

Capt. Keith Deneys says the online reports will be processed within a day or two, when deputies have time to go through them. He says people who report the crimes will get a confirmation e-mail, and a copy of the report e-mailed to them.

Deneys says the option is not available in Green Bay.
