Wis. still nation's No. 1 cheese producer

California is still on top, as the nation's largest milk producer, but Wisconsin is keeping its crown for cheese.

State agriculture secretary Ben Brancel says Wisconsin produced 2.8 billion pounds of cheese last year. That's up five percent from 2011, and it accounts for about 25 percent of all of the cheese in the country.

Brancel says the state's speciality cheese market continues to grow in the U.S. and across the world.
