Prof. reacts to Pope's resignation
Pope Benedict's announcement that he's resigning stunned the Catholic Church, and a religious studies professor says that's understandable.
St. Norbert College professor Thomas Bolin says the last time a pope resigned was before Columbus discovered America.
Bolin says the pope made it clear that he physically can't perform his duties anymore. He says that was a very unselfish decision for the pope to make, because previous popes continued, despite declining health.
Bolin says the pope's decision to stay out of the public eye will also make it easier for his successor to take over the role.
