UW-System official likes job training plan

UW- System leaders say they're onboard with Governor Walker's plan to offer grants to schools for programs that focus on training students for high-demand careers.

The grants are meant to help fill the skills gap for skilled trade positions like welders, but UW-System Spokesman David Giroux says the UW schools can also play a role.

He says the schools train students in science, technology, math, and engineering related fields.  He says those fields are becoming increasingly important because of increasing demand for nurses, IT professionals, mechanical engineers, and people with business and finance training.
