Appleton student, crossing guard hit by car
Appleton police are investigating, after a vehicle hit a 10-year-old child and a 49-year-old crossing guard this morning, in a
crosswalk, near McKinley elementary school.
Sgt. Dave Lund says the crash happened at the intersection of East Taft Avenue and South Clover Lane shortly before 8 a.m. and investigators are trying to figure out why the driver didn't stop in time. He says they want to know how fast the vehicle was going, and if the windshield was frost covered.
Lund says officers will decide whether to recommend any charges or ticket the driver once they complete their investigation.
The crossing guard and student both needed medical attention. The crossing guard has an injured leg, and the crash hurt the student's arm.
