Appleton 4K sites gain preliminary approval

Four year old kindergarten starts next year in the Appleton school district, and the school system is one step closer to finalizing where those classes will be held.

The business services committee gave tentative approval this morning to 25 sites, and district chief financial officer Don Hietpas says they include a variety of outside organizations, including private preschools and day cares.

Hietpas says the sites have to meet several requirements, including being approved by the state's department of children and families or the department of public instruction.  He says there are also standards for the teachers.

The school board could finalize the locations, for the 4K program later this month.
