Appleton reaches deals with 4k sites

Twenty-five child care providers in the Appleton area will be sites for the school district's new four-year-old kindergarten program.

The school board signed off on the list last night.

Assistant superintendent Judy Baseman says they're partnering with the various providers, because they don't have enough room in schools for all of the extra students.

The district will pay each provider, per student, and it will be up to the child care centers to decide how much to pay their instructors.

Baseman says the district's program will last 2-1/2 hours each day, and parents will not have to pay for that time, at a center.

She says they're also going to pick some in-school sites, and that process will start today. She says those locations will include spots for English language learners.
