Bill limits in-person absentee voting
Absentee voting in the evening, or on the weekend, would become a thing of the past, under a Republican-backed bill in the Assembly.
The measure would limit in-person absentee voting to 40 hours a week, three weeks before the election. It would also have to be done between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Appleton city clerk Char Peterson says that could have an impact on towns that offer evening absentee voting. It would also end special Saturday hours.would also bother people who've become accustomed to the weekend voting.
Peterson says her office would also have to cut one hour of absentee voting during the week before the election, because the office is open a half-hour longer on the Thursday and Friday before the election.
