LU honored again for community service

Lawrence University is receiving a very familiar honor for the volunteer work of students.

For the seventh straight year, the school made the President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll.

Monica Rico coordinates volunteer opportunities at Lawrence. She says they have a great relationship with the community, and they get their ideas for projects from a number of places.

Rico says sometimes students do service work as part of an internship, and they also can earn credit for doing a research project that will benefit the community in some way.

She says last year, nearly 1,000 students devoted more than 16,000 hours to volunteering.
