Hospitals try to prevent 'superbugs'
There are more reports of cases of antibiotic-resistant
bacteria around the country, and the state.
At least 17 hospitals and long-term care facilities in Wisconsin have treated patients.
Miki Gould of ThedaCare says they're taking strict precautions to prevent of the spread of the bacteria. She says that includes disinfecting items that go between hospital rooms.
Gould says patients also need to be proactive, by washing their hands and insisting their visitors do as well.
She says the excessive use of antibiotics is contributing to so-called "superbugs." Gould says people shouldn't demand antibiotics every time they get sick, but if they do get a prescription, they should take it until it's gone. She says they don't completely kill the bacteria, if they stop early, and the bacteria could then become immune to antibiotics.
