State to send Amber Alerts to cell phones
The state justice department is going to start sending Amber Alerts to cell phones, automatically, through text messages.
Susan WhiteHorse is the director of the state's system, and she says they're taking part in a national program. She says they can send them out on a regional or statewide basis, depending on the situation.
She says the technology will save lives, because it will get the information into the hands of as many people, as quickly as possible.
WhiteHorse says under the old system, people had to sign up through the state's Amber Alert website to receive text alerts. People are able to opt out of the automatic alerts, by going to that website.
