Council holds off on IT director hire

A plan to hire a new information technology director for the city of Appleton, and pay $25,000 for relocation expenses, is on hold.

The city council wants to take two weeks to think about the recommendation from Mayor Tim Hanna. He wants to hire interim leader Dean Fox, who lives about 10 miles outside of the city.

Hanna says he'll probably itemize the moving costs, and bring them back to the council. He says after taking everything into account, the $25,000 figure is about right.

Hanna says council members have made it clear in the past that they want city directors to live within Appleton's borders, so he's working off of that.

Fox also wants to have up to 24 months to move, over the city's requirement of 12 months.
