Brown Co. a leader in population growth

Wisconsin's population is climbing, and Brown County was one of the leaders in that growth.

The county had the second-highest increase, since 2010, at two percent. The numbers are from the U.S. Census Bureau.

Green Bay Mayor Jim Schmitt credits a strong business community. He says the education system in Green Bay is a strong recruiting tool.

Fred Monique of the Green Bay Area Chamber of Commerce says he didn't expect to see that level of growth, because he thought more retirees would possibly move to warmer places.

Monique says while they can't fight the climate, it's clear that Green Bay has a lot to offer in terms of employment, housing, and education.

Brown County's population is now around 253,000. The state's population is about 5.7 million, and it's up 39,000 from 2010.
