Bay Port leader wins 'principal of year'
The head of Bay Port high school believes their efforts to create plans for each student helped him win a "principal of the year" award.
The state department of public instruction revealed the four award-winners yesterday.
Principal Michael Frieder says students are now taking courses, based on when they're ready, instead of by grade level. He says that means some freshmen and sophomores are taking college-level courses.
Frieder says he's honored, and he credits the staff, school board, students, and parents.
Frieder and the three other winning principals are now in the running for a national award that will be announced in Washington D.C., in the fall.
Two Appleton principals won the state honor last year -- North high school associate principal David Mueller, and Bill McClone from Lincoln elementary.
