Village leader reacts to Schmitt's plan

A proposal to move all property with a Green Bay mailing address into the city won't sit well with Green Bay's neighboring communities.

That's the feeling of Ashwaubenon village president Mike Aubinger.

Green Bay Mayor Jim Schmitt announced his plan Wednesday night, saying it would give the city more political influence, and lower costs for services.

Aubinger says Schmitt brought up the idea about a year ago, but he didn't say any more about it because it upset a lot of local leaders. He says Schmitt gave no warning that he was reviving the proposal.

Aubginer says he's confident that the communities Schmitt is targeting won't go along with the plan. He says it is important for Green Bay and its neighbors to work well together on a regional basis. But he says that doesn't mean combining into one city.
