The power of Chiefs

Tuesday, Oct, 8 2013

So I'm at this past weekend's NASCAR race in Kansas City.  Weird...it was almost 90 on Friday afternoon for practice, by race time on Sunday it was mostly cloudy, windy and 54.

Then, half way through the race, a fire breaks out in turn one at the track.  Not on the track itself but up about 40 yards above the track where a grill in the hospitality area started some bushes on fire!  Caution comes out...KC BBQ is outstanding, but I'll pass on the BBQ'd hydrangea.

About 75 laps to go in the race and I notice a group of people get up and they're going nuts, doing the tomahawk chop and thrusting their hand up in the air!!  Then I get it--they are Kansas City Chiefs fans, the boys just completed a comeback in their game, and the Chefs are now 5-0.  After winning just 2 games last year, I can understand their glee....but, sit the hell down!

Tom Clancy

Thursday, Oct, 3 2013

Prolific author Tom Clancy passed away yesterday at the age of 66.  In a strange way, I might get a few more winks at night now!

There were many an evening where I would stretch it just one more chapter, even as my eyelids would get heavier and heavier. And a Clancy book was a delightful chore, often more than a thousand pages!  You get your weight lifting in as you read!

Clancy had a new book due out in early December, with a movie based on another book due on Christmas Day.  Looks a few more short nights of sleep coming!

The Cheese Dip!

Thursday, Sep, 26 2013

Sorry--but it's one of the new names for the sagging of the Leo Frigo bridge in Green Bay!

What a cruddy break for Green Bay area commuters for the next weeks or months. Already strapped with considerable construction on 41, now you get whacked with no access over the river on 43.  That will just further clog 172 and every West/East city street that has a bridge over the Fox.

I have to admit that I've never enjoyed driving over that bridge, especially when it's stormy or windy!  It can sway more than Foster Brooks on the Dean Martin roast!!!

Big floods

Monday, Sep, 16 2013

We've had our issues with Mother Nature this summer, now it's sadly a tragic week in and around Denver, Colorado.  I was in the area for a family reunion this past weekend, and saw it in person.

Massive flooding from steady downpours quickly raised rivers to levels they haven't seen in decades, or even ever. Numerous dead, thousands of structures destroyed, hundreds still missing or cut off from the rest of the world due to communications out and roads gone.  One reporter overstated the devastation a bit by saying it was "biblical", but one could understand her comments once you witnessed it up close.

Good time to count our blessings.

Contests aplenty!

Thursday, Sep, 5 2013

Hey--two quick contests to keep an eye out for:

1.  Sign up and play the WHBY Football Pickem contest, where you can pick the Pro games every week and maybe win fabulous prizes--and compete against me, too!  It's up at whby.com right now...

And,

2. I will be starting a quick on-air contest on WHBY soon, where you could win a free round of golf for you and your spouse(or a friend) to Fox Valley Golf Club in Kaukauna!  Includes golf, cart for two and the Friday fish fry at the Fox for two as well!  And, you will be joining me and my wife Shelly for the golf and dinner!  I know, there's always a hitch, right?!!!  Keep listening for details.
