The trouble with Ebola...

Friday, Oct, 17 2014

Ebola.
Make up your minds.

That's the trouble with Ebola....at least when it comes to the whiners in this country.
I'll explain...first segment of the PhilCast on Friday.

Bank on it Menasha

Thursday, Oct, 16 2014

Maybe I should have seen this one coming.

Hey Menasha, stop the madness!

So now the next great historical building to go after the Menasha Hotel will be the bank that now sits next to a pile of rubble that USED to be the grand old hotel?

Why didn't we know about this ahead of time?

To lose one great old building to make way for progress in the name of business and the almighty dollar is one thing, but now they want the bank building to come down too?

Is this a case of 'give them a finger and they take the whole hand'?
Was this their plan all along?

Does the development group even have tenants for all this 'new, modern' space that is going to be created? Pillars like that don't grow on trees you know. Ask Neenah about city hall, where at least they had a half a brain and left the clock tower up.

I'm just a guy who appreciates the look of great old buildings from the past.
I also understand how local business owners want to see progress and traffic increased. But why does that have to come at a cost of losing part of the very fiber of your community?

I just wish there was more attention paid to perhaps doing more to renovate on the inside and protect the outside of these grand buildings from long ago. After all, your past is your DNA.

Celebrating 5 years of the PhilCast

Wednesday, Oct, 15 2014

The PhilCast was born five years ago today, and I'll be playing some classic audio from way back when as part of the celebration on the show today.

This was me in the fall of 2009 in my basement studio podcasting what I basically called a radio show without a radio station at the time.

Then came WHBY, believers in not only me, but the power of LOCAL radio and the connection it makes with the community.

Thanks to all of you who have kept me as a part of your daily life for so many years.

And thanks to WHBY for believing.

Don't kill the dog

Tuesday, Oct, 14 2014

We used to have a dog like this, so maybe that's why I'm even more interested in this story.

Lets not follow the lead of Spain on this one.

Dallas health officials have decided not to kill the dog belonging to the nurse diagnosed with Ebola over the weekend, even though the dog belonging to the Spanish nurse with the disease was euthanized over concerns it could transmit the virus.

They say they'll care for the dog and monitor its condition.

Lets take a deep breath here and do the right thing. We don't need to be panic-killing animals.

At the cabin

Monday, Oct, 13 2014

Now this is what a cabin in the woods should look like!

Although I tease the owner, the PhilCast's very own jingle writer Kris Kraft, about how he and his wife Debbie are roughing it in the woods with wi-fi and cable.

Thank goodness for that cable, because it allowed me to watch part of the Packers' game on Sunday.

I was listening on the radio during the drive home when the magical final drive took place.

Wow.

Pack Yak leads off the show today, then 'HowzYer Weekend'....with stories from the trip. There are more pictures posted at the "Photo" page of thephilcast.com.
