"Restaurant Impossible" coming to Wisconsin

Friday, Apr, 5 2013

For the first time ever, Chef Robert Irvine is bringing his Food Network show "Restaurant Impossible" to Wisconsin and it will happen next week down in Twin Lakes, just south of Lake Geneva.

Today on the PhilCast I'll chat with the man who owns the place that will get the makeover from Chef Robert and his team. We'll talk right after the 3:30 news.

The fallen should stay down

Thursday, Apr, 4 2013

So Lance Armstrong will return to competition in a swimming pool in Austin, Texas soon. (The swimming isn't covered in his doping scandal punishment)

Like I'll say on the PhilCast when I chat about this today, I get it, but I don't get it.

I get the fact that this guy, for whatever reason, is one of these guys that seems to have to prove himself to everyone else over and over again.

He's one of these guys with a chip on his shoulder who feeds on beating others down in competition.
It's something that served him well in his cycling career....well, that and the illegal doping.

The part I don't get is why the need to continue with that attitude at this point in his life? After all the disgrace and shame why not just fade into the background for a long while? I guess because he can't. It's the way he's wired. But after all that has happened I wish he would just go away.

Yeah, bitter, party of one....that's me. But it still stings. How could he have done what he did?

Tattoos NOT for dogs

Wednesday, Apr, 3 2013

I've got a story coming up on the PhilCast today about a guy in North Carolina taking some heat for getting his dog a tattoo.

I don't think a dog should have to be put through this for the pleasure of an owner who thinks it's cool.

Oh this guy is trying to say he did it for I-D purposes. Ya, right. That's what a micro-chip is for.

And I was somewhat surprised to read that even PETA is OK with doing this.

If a dog owner doesn't go micro-chip for an I-D then perhaps a small tattoo marking would be okay with me, although it is not something I would ever do to any dog I own.

Going to the extent that this guy did here is just wrong in my opinion. You like tattoos then keep 'em on your own body and leave the ink off your dog.

Upside down on ketchup bottles

Tuesday, Apr, 2 2013

Since the Brewers took their time winning in extra innings on Opening Day Monday, we never got a chance to chat about the Easter weekend because of the short show following the game.

So today I'll open the PhilCast today with a recap and some stories about Easter egg hunts gone bad from around the country.

I did end up making a couple of varieties of sauces for Easter dinner, which brings me to today's blog subject: ketchup bottles.

In the course of meal prep I had occasion to open both a new mayo jar and a new bottle of ketchup. Could someone please invent a new way to seal the opening once you remove the plastic cap?

You know what I mean, right? There is a round piece of cardboard held on with a few tiny tabs wrapped around the outside of the opening.

As it turns out, these tiny tabs are nearly impossible for normal-sized human digits to grab and peel up, thus release the death hold the cardboard piece has on the opening of your ketchup bottle or mayor jar.

Inevitably after some swearing and numerous stabs at the little buggers I end up with ketchup or mayo on my fingers, having fought a diligent battle to simply get my new condiment container open!

At the very least they need to all be using that style that has a lift-up plastic flap you can grab and pull up rather than the little tabs on the side. The flap method doesn't always work either, but at least your odds of ketchup-covered fingers go down using that style.

Plus, I've gotta say for some reason I'm not a fan of those upside down ketchup bottles either. Give me my ketcup old-school thank you very much.

Opening Day

Monday, Apr, 1 2013

Enjoy hearing Brewers' baseball on HBY today as another baseball season kicks off at Miler Park this afternoon. After the game we'll pick it up with a shortened PhilCast show.
Being the day after Easter, I have a couple of dandy Easter stories for you to get you to 6:00 this evening.
