Shame on NBC and Christin Cooper

Monday, Feb, 17 2014

Shame on NBC and Christin Cooper, the interviewer who couldn't take her own question's answer at face value.

No, she had to ask basically the same thing three times until she got what she wanted-tears. She made Bode Miller cry about the death of his brother.

And shame on NBC for playing back the video that way in prime time.

And double shame on NBC for the statement released about the post-race interview afterward, once social media started to break bad on them.

The minute I was watching it unfold on TV Sunday night both Sandy and I were yelling at the TV to stop it!
Bode was asked about losing his brother. Asked and answered. Then drilled at him a second time and answered. Then a third reference as the camera inches closer and closer to Bode's eyes in the hopes of getting great TV....tears.

You got what you wanted NBC. Hope you're real proud.

And then after all the backlash from viewers about the interview, the network has the audacity to attempt to explain the attack on the man by saying it was needed to get his emotional answer. He gave that after you asked the first time you idiots. Don't lie to us. We're not stupid. You wanted to see him cry. You got what you wanted. Shame on you.

Yeah sure it's a fake Hallmark holiday in my world, but that does not mean the PhilCast doesn't celebrate a special day PhilCast style.

Today we open the show with a bit we've done a couple of times before that always cracks me up....and it seems quite appropriate to do it again today of all days; "Missed Connections" from Craig's List.

Because nothing says romance like some random post on-line from someone so desperate they're trying to pick up someone they saw while checking out at a Wal-Mart last week.

Change the name

Thursday, Feb, 13 2014

Today I'll open the PhilCast by laying out what I believe is my case for tossing the name of the airport you see to the right.

Some facts and figures from the real world fuel my position, with emotion taken from the equation.

Take territorial pettiness off the table and think about what's best for the airport and the Valley.

"Regional" is the equivalent of when they use the word 'cozy' in real estate ads. Translation: small.

Outa-What? Outa-Who?

Business is the bottom line, and that's why the name needs to go. We'll chat at 3:00.

Welcome newest member of PhilCast team

Tuesday, Feb, 11 2014

I've been teasing it over on Twitter for a while now, and since you are enough of a fan of the PhilCast to be checking my blog I'll release the news here first.

Today on the Tuesday PhilCast we begin a new daily segment that will air right after the 3:30 news update.

Welcome Erin Davisson of WFRV Channel 5.

Every afternoon we'll take a few minutes to chat about what's up with Erin and what's up in the news at Channel 5 for that night.

It's your chance to get to know the person behind the 'news anchor' you watch on the tube (which now of course is an outdated term. Just like when people say 'don't touch that dial.' What dial?)

Erin 'gets it'. I know that because I know she listens to the PhilCast when she can. That's why I'm excited to be adding her to our daily lineup. Buckle could be a bumpy ride at times. But I'm sure you are up to the task Erin....I sit next to Zalaski every night.

Here we go.....
