Tie watch

The Rumble in the Jungle...

Ah, not so much, but presidential debate #2 is on tap tonight and I'll be on tie watch again.

In the wake of my tie story on the show Monday I would suggest one of them walk out in THIS bad boy tonight.

Will either one of them break the red/blue pattern tonight?

If you didn't catch the story yesterday you can certainly check it out via the PhilCast podcast page from the 4:00 hour Monday.

The story lays out the entire history of the ties worn at presidential debates, including the only man to have worn a brown tie during a debate.

Yup, it was Ronald Reagan, whom, if you remember, had a thing for brown in general, something I was going to ask him about when I was at the White House during his presidency but I chickened out at the last minute. It's all there on the podcast.

Holy Real Estate...No Really

Monday, Oct, 15 2012

Monday means Pack Yak on the PhilCast with Rich Ratay for the first hour. And there will be no shortage of Yak after that fantastic victory last night on national television.

Then in hour number two it's time to talk weekend with "Howz Yer Weekend?"

I've got a couple funny stories from my weekend for you, including the best one that happened at our first fish fry together in Appleton. Sandy and I had a great time at....(gotta listen)

And I learned about why St. Joseph is going to sell a house for us.

Up until Saturday I had never heard about this tradition. But I have now, and it if works for selling Sandy's late father's house in Adams-Friendship I am going to try it for our own house in Wauwatosa in a heartbeat!

LiveNotSoStrong?

Friday, Oct, 12 2012

Remember when these rubber bracelets were all the rage? 7-time Tour de France winner and cancer beater Lance Armstrong made them a rallying calling card in the fight against the ugly disease.

Now, take 'Tour de France' winner from Mr. Armstrong's title...stripped by officials who govern the sport and say he cheated. His own former teammates and friends testified against him it turns out, according to evidence released this week.

So where does that leave the future of his foundation?

Are people less-likely now to donate and take part because Livestrong was all based on a lie? I mean, he DID still beat cancer and all.

This is tough for me personally too because as a cyclist I for years followed Lance's career with an amazement at his accomplishments. And some of those former teammates (still friends I wonder?) are still racing and have been suspended now because of their involvement in all this.

We'll discuss on the Friday PhilCast.

PhilCast 1st Anniversary

Thursday, Oct, 11 2012

...and they said it wouldn't last. Wait, who said that?

The PhilCast celebrates its first anniversary today with WHBY. The actual show turns three years old on Monday, October 15th. I remember recording the first show on that date in 2009 because it is also Mrs. Biggest Name's birthday. By doing it that way I was always sure to remember when this whole PhilCast concept took flight.

My first guests on that initial PhilCast back in 2009 were my brothers in broadcasting, Dick Alpert (who still drops in on the show once in a while) and Lips LaBelle, who still joins me every Thursday for his Hollywood news and gossip segment. Hard to find two more quality guys. All three of us had at one time worked under the same radio roof for a long time before being 'let go', a term I have to this day never understood.

That's Alpert back on Oct. 15, 2009, the debut PhilCast show from my basement studio.

Note the makeshift piece of lumber we used because at the time we didn't even have enough microphone stands for three people.

The PhilCast Family was born on that day, made up of a base of fans that had followed and supported me from the airwaves to the podcast world and now of course, back to the airwaves thanks to Woodward Radio.

And there's Lips helping to decorate the first PhilCast studio Christmas tree that first year.

We even recorded a special "Andy Williams-esque" Christmas show that year.

Now the PhilCast has added a whole new group of radio listeners to the family from throughout the Fox Valley.

I've been blessed to have some incredibly talented people placed around me as well, starting with PhilCast Executive Producer Reggie, who 'brings it' each and every day.

Most importantly on this anniversary day I want to thank each and every one of you who make the PhilCast a part of your day. Your support and loyalty means the world to me.

Happy Anniversary To Us!

Who's watching/listening to you?

Wednesday, Oct, 10 2012

Hidden microphones.

Be careful what you say because in this day and age you never know what is being secretly recorded.

Now, as sinister as that may sound, I'll have a story today on the PhilCast about how one guy put one of these little guys to good use.

You see he took his fast and loud Camaro in for some service.

What the guys working on the car didn't realize was that the owner had the thing wired for sound.

I'll play back what he heard when I talk about the story this afternoon on the PhilCast.

Busted!
