Worst toy this Christmas

Thursday, Dec, 10 2015

...and the worst toy this Christmas is?

Take a look...

That's something called,
"Hello Barbie"

I know, I know, you're saying, "Phil, what in world could be so wrong with Barbie? She has been around forever."

True, but not THIS version of Barbie.

That's because technology is involved so as to make this Barbie hi-tech interactive with your child.

Problem is, hackers and tracking come into play too.

I'll discuss on the Thursday PhilCast.

35 years?

Tuesday, Dec, 8 2015

Has it been 35 years already?

Yes it has.

I was a much younger man doing what I still do now that night, watching Monday Night Football when Howard Cosell delivered the news.

35 years.

It's hard to believe it was that long ago.

Special open to mark the occasion on the PhilCast Tues.

Neenah Shooting

Sunday, Dec, 6 2015

While taking my dog Gabby out to, well, you know, on a foggy Sunday morning a neighbor on my block, also walking her dog, said to me, "Was that you we heard on the radio at the shooting yesterday?"

Oh yeah, it was me all right.

Four hours worth of live coverage from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. trying to piece together the madness of SWAT team members with automatic weapons drawn, running around buildings and armored vehicles that resembled tanks.

This stuff doesn't happen in little Neenah, Wisconsin.

Yet there I was because as we all know, it does happen...anywhere.

You can see me in this photo (with the yellow PhilCast hat) at work, interviewing the owner of the nearby bike shop "Cranked".

He heard multiple shots a few doors down as he was getting his store ready for what he hoped would be a busy Saturday.

It didn't work out that way.

The point of this blog is not to talk about the incident, or go into fascinating details about who ended up linking up with me about this story from around the world (I'll talk about that aspect on the Monday PhilCast) but rather to remind you that this story is an example of why it's important to have LOCAL radio in our community.

When you want to know what's happening, you should be able to turn to local journalists who live and breathe in the same community as you do. Voices you trust because you hear them everyday doing that very same thing.

WHBY provides that in an age when many radio stations simply take the cheaper and more convenient way out....just play syndicated shows with national newscasts. No need to have local news people on the street.

I disagree. And Saturday's events in Neenah are a clear example of why.

WHBY and the HBY news team provided coverage throughout the standoff and then well into the evening as authorities were finally able to release details in news conferences. You were able to tune in to get the latest information about what was happening as it was happening!

It was a trying day.
It was tough to see these things unfolding in our community.
It could have been much worse.

But my point is that local radio, radio like we do for you on WHBY, has you covered.

Friday "Pack Yak"

Friday, Dec, 4 2015

Rare full-metal Pack Yak with Rich Ratay for the first hour of the Friday PhilCast show.

I know, I know, it was a great finish to the game and an amazing play.
But that doesn't wipe away the stain of how poorly the Packers played Thursday night against the Lions.

I'm afraid I am going to have to play Scrooge on the Yak.

Then in hour #2 we'll have a guest-shot during the "Rascal of the Week" segment at 4:20-ish.....followed by our usual visit with Mary Rhode for "Chadoin' This Weekend?".
