Endless Vacation

Thursday, Apr, 3 2014

So what do you think endless vacation time would be like?
And no, I'm not talking about unemployment.

I'm talking about a few big companies in this country trying out the concept of having no select number of vacation or sick days at all. You work when you can/want and you take off when you can/want.

Must be chaos, right?

Hold your timecards there friends.
Not so much.

In fact, as it turns out....
Well now wait, you should LISTEN to the PhilCast to hear the while story today.
And that picture up there? That's gonna be me in about one month from now!

Beware of April Fools

Tuesday, Apr, 1 2014

Since it is April Fools Day (and an election day...how perfect is that?) I thought I would get the 'fools' out of the way right at the start of the show today.

So be sure to be listening when I open the Tuesday PhilCast with my own version of news headlines on this special day.

No one is safe.
No one.

Opening Day at Miller Park

Monday, Mar, 31 2014

The PhilCast will start late Monday so as to bring you coverage of the following annual rite of Spring.

Opening Day.

As I tweeted this morning, reporters these days have it made.

Why, back in MY days as a reporter covering opening day at the ballpark, that meant 20 layers of clothes and lots of hot chocolate, because you were going to be walking around the cold parking lot of County Stadium for several hours that morning.

Then, once it was time to go inside, you didn't really go INSIDE like now with a nice cozy roof. You were on the field outside and it was always cold, made worse by the fact that you had been out in the lot for a couple of hours prior.

Then after the field there was no retreat to a modern press box either. Nope. You made your way up to what was called the lodge, where you would take a seat on an ice-cold folding chair and set your arms down on a steely ledge-type tabletop that could keep meat frozen.

Good luck feeling your toes or fingers by the end of the game when the warmth of the locker room finally called.

Today at Miller Park....not so much. I hope the new breed of reporters appreciates what they have.

Still, at the time, there was an excitement about covering Opening Day for me. I have many memories of this day. But perhaps THIS one is the best ever because I was there and felt the electricity.

With two outs in the bottom of the 9th, Sixto Lexcano hits a game-winning Grand Slam to start the 1980 season off in style.

Good luck Brewers.

Aaron Rodgers' Bo butt slap

Friday, Mar, 28 2014

Great game.
Wisconsin in the Elite Eight.
Great night.

This is a cool little video inside the Badgers' locker room after the game, where it turns out Aaron Rodgers was hanging out.

While it's neat to watch, why am I slightly disturbed by the butt slap A-Rodg delivers to Bo right at the end (pardon the pun) of the clip?

Football field is one thing....
