Jelly doughnut glory

Tuesday, Feb, 17 2015

One day a year, the common jelly doughnut gets all the attention.

Fat Tuesday...and suddenly it's not just a jelly doughnut, it's a PAZCKI, the world's most insane spelling of a baked item....or several since that's actually plural as I understand it.

Simple Simon Bakery of Appleton will be in the PhilCast studio to open the Fat Tuesday show packing some pazcki.

Naked Traveler

Monday, Feb, 16 2015

Well there he is....the guy who was so frustrated with the security checks at an airport that he just gave up and got rid of everything before he went through the detector.

And it was all in plain sight....or should that be plane sight at an airport?

One of the stories we'll have some fun with on the Monday PhilCast.

Dog Show!

Thursday, Feb, 12 2015

Every winter I love watching the two nights of live TV coverage of the annual Westminster Dog Show.

The 139th edition comes up this Monday and Tuesday nights, when another "Best In Show" will be crowned.

As a dog guy I just really enjoy this celebration of our four-legged friends.

David Frei here is the voice of the show, and he joins me live on the PhilCast this afternoon at 3:45-ish to talk all things dog show.

He's a King Charles Cavalier Spaniel guy himself, the same kind of dog we had rescued before our current rescue dog Gabby, who is a Cairn Terrier. So we'll be rooting for both breeds next week.

That was our Betsy on the left with her cousin Emma back in the day.

Betsy was a little princess who loved laps, especially Sandy's lap.
That was HER dog.

I would do when Sandy wasn't around, but 'Betsy Boop' was clearly Sandy's girl.

Now instead of a petit little lady lap dog, we have a tomboy little scrapper dog in Gabby.

Gabby's claim to fame is her "Please" position. It took a while to teach her to sit up, but we created a monster once she learned it.

Try watching TV when she jumps on your lap and does this!

It's the celebration of all things dogs with the Westminster show Monday & Tuesday nights next week.

Jon Stewart's replacement

Wednesday, Feb, 11 2015

I like the Daily Show....have for years.
I like Jon Stewart....have for years.

But I think the show can do just fine in the future without him because of the writers, the strength of any good comedy show.

Still, who can pull off holding down that anchor chair night after night?

In my not-so-humble opinion there is a clear favorite--John Oliver.

Heck, he's already got the same first name, albeit spelled in a different way.

Yup, JO is doing it now on HBO, which I do not subscribe to.

If he makes the move I'd get to watch Oliver again on the Daily Show if he were to come back as the lead guy.
