Wanted: One talented, charming black man

Wednesday, Feb, 27 2013

WANTED:

One charming black man who has the 'wow' factor.

A black actor is being sought to play a musician in Season 4 of the 1920's-set British costume drama, "Downton Abbey."

This will be a first for the wildly-popular PBS series.

You'll be seeing Jack Ross, introduced as part of a storyline about race relations in the time period.

According to the casting notes sent out to various agents, the show is looking for someone who is:

"Male, 25-30. A musician [singer] at an exclusive club in the 20's. He's black and very handsome. A real man [not a boy] with charm and charisma."

The right actor should "ideally be able to sing brilliantly."

"Overall, he should be a very attractive man with a certain wow factor," the notes said.

Any ideas as to who should play the role?
Post them at the PhilCast Facebook Fan Page.

An "ILLEGAL" bumper sticker?

Tuesday, Feb, 26 2013

The question I have today; When can the cops force you to take a bumper sticker off your car? We'll talk about that on today's PhilCast with a local twist after laying out the story.

Here it is, the bumper sticker in question...

See that leaf? Police in Memphis did and they forced a couple of Ohio State Buckeye fans from Texas to pull over because of it.
The cops thought that was a marijuana leaf.
Maybe one too many donuts clouded their eyes and minds.

Notice the football too?
Maybe take note of the fact that THIS is an Ohio State helmet...the BUCKEYES?!

According to the story the cops still made an issue of this.

My question overall becomes this-even if it WAS a marijuana leaf would the authorities have the right to make you take that off your car?

What CAN the cops force you to remove from your personal property?

We'll discuss on the show this afternoon.

An idea for the Oscars telecast

Monday, Feb, 25 2013

Yes, I watched every minute of the Oscars telecast last night and then some. Keeping an eye on the red carpet fashion, I even watched some of the pre-Oscars coverage on E!.

Just like everyone else, I'll be talking about the show today on the PhilCast. I've got it broken down into three areas:

1. The Awards
2. The Fashion
3. The Telecast

Much is being said and written about Seth McFarland's effort as host of the show.

I'll have my two cents worth, plus I've got an idea for how to approach next year's show with a whole new twist. I'm not going to spill the beans here in my blog though....I'll save it for the PhilCast today.

Also, don't they call the Daytona 500 "The Great American Race"? Interesting, because I didn't see much actual racing on Sunday afternoon.
What's up with that?

Talk to you this afternoon....

PhilCast Oscars Contest-Enter NOW!

Friday, Feb, 22 2013

Time for the Oscars on Sunday, so I figure why not have some fun picking winners. Hey, if I can do it you can too. I have not seen one of the nominated films this year!

But it's fun to play along together as a group so we have created a PhilCast Family contest entry page on-line where you can make your picks and follow along with the picks of other listeners as well.

Give it a shot.

I'm throwing in some PhilCast gear for one lucky winner too.

Just CLICK HERE to enter by filling out some information and then making your picks. Then you can follow along as we get closer to the show to see who is playing and what they are picking.

Good luck and have fun.

We'll talk more about the Oscars on the PhilCast this afternoon when my brother in broadcasting Mark Reardon joins me from KMOX Radio to make his picks.

Poodles, a station wagon and Downton Abbey?

Thursday, Feb, 21 2013

On my TV viewing docket for Thursday night will be a special one-hour "Parks and Rec" episode.

I like the show, and I especially like the character Ron Swanson, who plays up being a no nonsense "man's man" character.

I guess he must be a pretty good actor because the news I learned about the man today is nothing like the character he plays on the show.

His real name is Nick Offerman and he is doing a live comedy show in Milwaukee this weekend. Because of that there was an article in the paper about him which disclosed some facts about NICK that certainly are nothing like my image of RON on the show.

--He drives a station wagon he picked out because it had the highest safety rating he could find.
(I picture Ron as a guy with a rusty old pickup truck in bad need of a new muffler)

--He and his wife have three poodles...not exactly the kind of dog you would think a Ron Swanson would own.
(I picture Ron with some type of hunting dog with a slobber problem)

--And one of his favorite TV shows is Downton Abbey on PBS.
(Can you say the Red Green Show?)

What insane Ron Swanson news will I hear next....he actually prefers salads?????
