Friday Night Lights

Friday, Oct, 16 2015

I make my high school football debut in the press box doing color commentary for the game between Menasha and Waupaca, the battle of the 'ah' schools.

One appears to be on fire while the other is some sort of crazed bird.

It's PhilCast style coming to the booth tonight on WHBY at 6:30. I'll be heading to the field right after the PhilCast.

PhilCast Celebrates 6 Years!

Thursday, Oct, 15 2015

This all started six years ago today, the last four of them on WHBY in Appleton.

There it is, the historical first group ever from Oct. 15th 2009 in my basement studio in Wauwatosa where the PhilCast was born.

That's Kris Kraft far left, who still writes and performs the show's jingles.

My "Jewish Friend" Dick Alpert in the chair.

Me at the controls.

Standing is Bill, who created and performed the PhilCast theme and was a huge help in putting the studio together.

Lips LaBelle, who still visits every Thursday on the show.

Thanks to each and every one of you who take time to listen to the show.
It is appreciated more than you could know.

Debate Snub

Wednesday, Oct, 14 2015

There it is.

So lonely at the Dems debate last night in Vegas.

The empty podium never got to speak. Joe Biden never showed up.

I've got my spin on what WAS said last night when I open the Wednesday PhilCast show.
(The show open is pretty funny....make sure to be listening.
Hint: Trump)

I know, I know...
I usually don't do politics. That's very true.

Two things to explain about my philosophy on that;

1) When it's a big deal nationally, I will bring a story up and not just ignore it....even if that story involves politics.

2) In cases like this, don't forget, it's MY spin which is from a comedic point of view and not heavy issues oriented.

So yes, from time to time you'll hear me throwing around names from the world of politics, especially in a presidential election cycle.

Celebrating Mary Tyler Moore

Tuesday, Oct, 13 2015

On the Tuesday PhilCast we'll be talking to the man behind tonight's PBS hour-long special, "Mary Tyler Moore, a Celebration".

Steve Boetcher will be in the studio with me to chat up his latest project. Steve has been on the show a couple of times before talking about his wonderful Pioneers of Television series on PBS.

I like his stuff and tonight's special should be no different.

I'm a little young to really appreciate her work with Dick Van Dyke (oooohh, ROB!) but that hat toss in the open of the show and that newsroom with Ed Asner....I was all over that back in the day.

Listen in to my conversation with Steve right after the 4:00 news Tuesday.

Cianciola to Provide Color Commentary for Menasha Football Season Finale’

A little bit of the PhilCast afternoon-drive radio talk show comes to “Friday Night Lights”, when PhilCast host Phil Cianciola, “The Biggest Name in Fox Cities Radio” takes to the airwaves as a color commentator for the first time ever on WHBY, Friday, October 16th.

Calling it an item he can now cross off his bucket list, Cianciola says he can’t wait to bring his unique football perspective to the booth with Marques Pfaff, who will be providing the play-by-play of the game between Menasha and Waupaca, Senior Night on Menasha’s home turf.

“Expect more grunts, groans and moans than Larry McCarren on a Packers’ broadcast,” says Cianciola.
“It’s going to be a blast!”

What: Menasha-Waupaca HS football broadcast live on WHBY radio
NewsTalk 1150

When: Friday, Oct. 16th, 6:30 p.m.

Where: Nathan Calder Stadium, Menasha, WI
Hear it on AM 1150 WHBY Radio

Why: Why not?
