Saying Goodbye

It's never easy.
I'd like to apologize if I seemed in any way off my game while doing the PhilCast this week. If you didn't notice any difference in the show then I guess I did my job, but it wasn't easy.
Long-time PhilCast listeners know about "The Italian Odd Couple" bit I used to record. It started after my 85-year-old father-in-law Bob moved down to New Berlin from Adams-Friendship to share a bachelor pad with his 88-year-old brother Frankie.
What followed was a series of adventures with those two captured on a recorder for the show. Bob & Frank go to the deli...Bob & Frank host a poker party...Bob & Frank go golfing.
Bob was dying this week.
Bob left us late Thursday night, finding relief at last after a struggle to come back from after a nasty fall dating all the way back to the week after Thanksgiving.
Not many PhilCast Family members knew what was going on behind the scenes, but I made mention of it once or twice on the show. I want to thank those who sent their kind words. It is much appreciated and in fact why I call it the PhilCast Family. Thanks for caring.
Perhaps I will play some highlights from the Italian Odd Couple on the Monday show. Then there will be a funeral Tuesday to celebrate the long life of this Navy Veteran. Thanks to all those who gave Bob excellent care at Zablocki V.A. Medical Center. All our Vets deserve nothing less.

Thursday notes....
Thursday, Apr, 5 2012
I love the movie Easter Parade, and on the Thursday PhilCast I'll include that as part of a discussion about Easter traditions.
Speaking of which, it's Good Friday tomorrow but it's also opening day at Miller Park. What's a Catholic tailgater to do? We'll have a guest on the show to talk about that today in the 4:00 hour.
And Lips LaBelle will be in the studio with me at 4:30 with his Hollywood news and gossip as per usual.
Remember...no PhilCast on Friday because the Brewers will be playing on the air on WHBY.
However, we'll be recording a baseball-themed podcast-only version of a Friday show for you to listen to on-demand. Just click on the podcast link to the right for all the podcast versions of the show.

Pain at the pump
Monday, Feb, 20 2012
Get ready 'cause here it comes.
I'll be talking about gas prices during the first hour of the PhilCast today because we're about to take a double hit at the pump.
First of all, spring is nearing, a time when the people who produce our gas have to switch to a summer blend, another way of saying they make the 'good stuff' that's more expensive for us to use.
Second of all there is the little matter of Iran, all into a tizz and pulling the plug on the Brits and the French...something about some fighting over 'alleged' nukes they're working on.
Look, the bottom line here is that this one-two punch for us could mean that the average price of a gallon around here this spring could hit $4.25, and that would be a record.
TV news today too...from SNL to the Colbert Report and more.
Talk to you at 3-ish.
