State Fair Opening Day

Thursday, Aug, 2 2012

I'm sharing a few photos from last year's opening day at the Wisconsin State Fair when, for the second year in a row the PhilCast show was live from the grounds. I've got to admit that it seems very strange to me to not be there broadcasting for the first time in 16 years.

Although the PhilCast won't be there today, I will be playing a special open to the show that uses some clips from last year there.

And each day on the show Mr. Fair, Bill (of Fair) Bill Cicerelli will be phoning in a live report from the grounds right after the 3:30 news. Watch my blog for any corresponding photos that he sends me too.

Speaking of photos...
Here are a few from our PhilCast setup last year on opening day...

That's the State Fair's Kathleen O'Leary, whom you heard on the show on Tuesday doing a State Fair preview interview.

And of course that's Lips LaBelle co-hosting with me there.

We had a sweet set-up at Rupena's with our own house band and everything.

The Kids From Wisconsin dropped by to sing and be interviewed on the show as well.

Of course, cream puffs.

Swim & Gym

Wednesday, Aug, 1 2012

Sure, Tuesday night was a great night for the U.S.A. at the Olympics. The U.S. 'pixies' take the gold in the gym and Michael Phelps becomes the most decorated athlete in history. Last night we belonged in the swim and gym.

But all the prime-time coverage continues to be on those two sports.

I've been over this before but it bugs me. The bottom line here is that if you want to see a variety of sports and you actually have a job or school or basically a life during the day you can't watch. NBC is basically saying you can see whatever you want on TV or on line, but don't expect to see it in prime time, which, I contend, is still the time most people watch TV. That's why it's called PRIME time.

Others tell me to just record the other sports.
Not so easy.
Then what?
When do I watch that? If I play back the recording in prime time I missed the big-ticket items of the day (like last night) that NBC had blacked out live.

There are only so many hours in a busy day.

I wish they gave me a variety in prime time.
....

Brewers play an afternoon game on HBY today....PhilCast with a delayed start should take off at about 4:30-ish.

Guy is the guy

Tuesday, Jul, 31 2012

Do you know this guy?

It's Guy.

Guy Adams, the guy who got himself kicked off Twitter because of his tweets critical of NBC's coverage of the Olympics.

Now both Twitter and NBC are taking more heat than ever for this thin-skinned and heavy-handed reaction to Guy's thoughts on their coverage.

I agree. Let him tweet his heart out. I thought that was part of the charm of Twitter....a place where you can express your opinions about things without fear of ramification. I guess not.

There is a dazzling detail in all this that makes the story even more twisted in my opinion, which I will cover on the PhilCast today.

And how about the great root beer malt debate I've got going on regarding Tom's Drive-In!

  Yum.

The photo was sent to me by a listener who went in and ordered a root beer MALT like I asked him to do.

At least one other listener did the same thing and both reported that there was a little confusion from behind the counter as to exactly what a root beer malt was.

It's not a black cow really.
It's not a root beer float.

It's something that should be the consistency of a shake, but with malt and root beer flavor.

I first brought it up on the show after I ordered one at the Tom's in Little Chute and they looked at me like I came from Mars!

I then received a giant cup of ice cream with a little soda at the bottom. Good, but not what I was expecting.

But according to these PhilCast Family members who have tried it out now, Tom's seems to be more on-board with what I think of as a root beer malt.

Hey, I'm getting hungry now!
PerchWhich basket and a malt at Tom's anyone?

Too much hugging

Monday, Jul, 30 2012

There's too much hugging going on at the Olympics.

There, I've said it.

Watching some of the beach volleyball over the weekend it really got out of hand. And as you can see, it wasn't just the women.

I mean really...do you need to hug and high-five after EVERY point, won or lost? They do.

Enough with the all hugging. Get on with the games.

But that's not my biggest complaint when it comes to the 2012 Olympics.

I'll discuss what that is during the PhilCast Olympic Update at 4:30-ish today as usual.

First hour we'll be rating and talking about our weekends in our usual "Howz Yer Weekend?" segment. You can call live to chat about yours 281-1150 or 1-866-887-1150 or post up on the PhilCast Facebook fan page now by just clicking here.

BAM! It's Oly time!

Friday, Jul, 27 2012

Finally.
Time to start following the medal count, and it starts out with a bang.

Michael Phelps takes on his arch rival Ryan Lochte Saturday in the 400-meter individual medley.

This is gonna be good stuff.

I must admit I enjoy watching the Winter Olympics more than summer, but that's only because there is nothing else to do in winter but sit glued to my TV.

I'll be talking about the Games each day on the PhilCast after the 4:30 news, and I must warn you that if something big happens I WILL cover it on my show. I am not going to sit on info. In this day and age I wish you the best of luck if you are going to try to keep yourself in the dark until the prime-time network coverage of the Olympics.
....

Remember to plug away when it comes to a weekend event...or just chat up your plans for the weekend when we do "Chadoin' This Weekend?" on the show after the 4:00 news today. The segment only makes sense if listeners USE it to share what's going on throughout the state. As long as people are doing that I will continue with the segment. But if participation drops so will the segment....so don't sit on your hands....you can call us live at 1-866-887-1150 or locally 281-1150 are the RED OX PhilPhone numbers...or post up at the PC Facebook fan page: CLICK HERE to get there.
