Why does it have to be so difficult?

Saturday, Aug, 25 2012

Weekend time, and maybe some of you will spend some time looking for a new vehicle this weekend. Not me. I already was doing that during the week. Why does buying a vehicle have to be such a pain? Just when I think I know what I want it turns out that it's not quite right.

Then what IS closer to right for you turns out to cost much more money than you have to spend. Then you start seeing other things that might work instead of what you were looking for in your price range. Confusion and uncertainty...welcome my unwanted friends.

And don't even get me started with wondering if you're getting a fair deal or not.

This whole dance is very troublesome to me. I wish I were one of those rich people that just had someone else buy a car for you, taking all the hassle out of it up front.

One of the cars I was considering was pretty close to what I was looking for, but it's a rear-wheel drive version. At first I thought, "Okay, maybe that won't be so bad." But the more I think about it the more I wonder who am I kidding? I live in Wisconsin. And I know the old-timers will say that's all they ever had back in the day and they did fine. Well, I don't want to live back in the day. I want all four wheels working for me in the snow.

Then I found out that this particular car had been in an accident. I'm not sure about this, but I get the feeling that should be a deal breaker and have me running from this car at this point.

Like I said....why does this all have to be such a chore? The search goes on....

Hero or Cheater?

Friday, Aug, 24 2012

In the end I guess the only person who will ever really know is Lance Armstrong. He'll have to live and die with what he did or did not do.

Is he a persecuted hero or a cheating doper?

Either way, he's given up the fight, calling the whole thing a silly witch hunt.

One governing body says that's proof he's a cheater. Another one says not so fast. Lance says there comes a time when enough is enough and this is that time.

He says the proof is in the fact that he's passed hundreds of drug tests over the course of his career.

Guilty or innocent, the one thing I know for sure is that it's crazy to have a professional sport be so screwed up that it could take away titles from someone from years past. That's an insane and screwed up system and it needs to be cleaned up. This would be an outrage in this country if this was the NFL, but it's professional cycling so the mainstream sports fan isn't really all that interested I guess.

Since I am a cyclist, when these stories about Lance come up I am often asked if I think he cheated.
I don't know....and that's the part that troubles me.
Many people around the sport will have a strong opinion when answering that question but the bottom line is that they don't know either.
Like I said, only Lance knows....and if he did cheat....he's gotta live and die with that on his head.

Go Pack Go

Thursday, Aug, 23 2012

The PhilCast will run from 3-4 today, then it's Packers' pre-game on WHBY. It should be an interesting game as Cedric Benson gives it his first go on green and gold against his old team. I'm really hoping he will provide some of the much-needed running game that will make A-Rod's life just that much easier back there at QB.

Thanks to Jackie Boyd of Jackie Boyd Photography for her work last night while we were shooting the cover art for the upcoming PhilCast CD release for charity. We had a lot of fun and I wish I could tell you more and post some photos, but it's all supposed to be top secret for a few more weeks.

Go PACK!

Honor system

Wednesday, Aug, 22 2012

They call it the honor system....you know....like those roadside stands that sell sweet corn with a box there for the money. Most people are honest and pay for what they take, right?

Well, they did a little test like that to find out, only in this case it was bottles of tea.

Who paid the most?
Who paid the least?

Did men with beards pay more often then red-headed women?

I know it's all very unscientific and a gimmick put on by the company that makes the tea, but still, I find these things fascinating. It's one of the stories I'll talk about after the Brewers' game on the Wednesday showgrum.

Oh, there's also the matter of the naked Prince Harry and his game of strip billiards to cover.

The 'new' Kimberly

Tuesday, Aug, 21 2012

Well thank goodness we now know that our friends in Kimberly live in a progressive community!
Or would that be a progressive village? It takes a village I've heard.
This is like one of those puzzles where you try to find what's different in the renditions.

So Kimberly has a new logo. What was so important that they had to make a change?

A) Kimberly now has more trees it appears
B) We now know that Kimberly is a village because it says so
C) (as covered above) it's a progressive place
D) The stacks that are no more are now a lighter shade of gray (wasn't that a song in the 60's?)
E) Apparently the sun either rises or sets on Kimberly as well now.

So there.
New font and all, celebrate well Kimberly.
