"Mustang Gail"

Wednesday, Apr, 15 2015

Forget about "Mustang Sally"...great song and all, but today I'll have "Mustang Gail" on the PhilCast with me to open the show.

50 years ago today the very first Mustang was sold in this country, and Gail Wise bought it down in Chicago.

She and her husband Tom still have that car today!

It's an amazing piece of auto history.

They'll both be on with me to talk about how the car was actually sold to Gail before anyone in the country had even seen the new vehicle. It wasn't even supposed to be in the showrooms yet when Gail drove it home that day 50 years ago.

It's a pretty incredible story, and I'm really looking forward to our chat today at 3:10.

Lawn Mower Blues

Tuesday, Apr, 14 2015

The start of the Tuesday PhilCast will sound a little like a "HowzYer Weekend" Monday show, since the Brewers' game took out the Monday PhilCast.

I'll re-visit a few stories from my weekend, including issues with my mower, which is where I need some help from listeners now.

The snow blower was run dry of fuel and tucked into the corner of my garage on Saturday.

Put as I pulled the mower into place I thought I would fuel it up and start it.

No fuel pressure as I primed the pump.
No fuel getting to the carb. Dry as a bone.

Now I have a mower that won't mow when I need it, which will probably be sooner than later.

Anyone got 'a guy' they can recommend who tinkers with these things and makes mowers right? Open to suggestions.

Email me. Thanks.

Put a roof on it!

Monday, Apr, 13 2015

So there may or may NOT be a PhilCast show on Monday afternoon.

That's because there's no roof on this place, Busch Stadium in St. Louis, where the Brewers and Cardinals are supposed to play a game this afternoon.

But there's rain in the forecast down there, so if it rains and there's no game or a rain-delayed game, we're on with the PhilCast.

Put a roof on that thing!

I'm so glad Miller Park was built the way it was--with a roof. If a game is scheduled a game is played, end of story.

I get it.

That's a very nice looking skyline of the home of Archway Cookies (That's why that thing is there, right?)
But with a retractable roof you could still see all that during dry days, and you could still play on wet ones like today.

Why do I even bother with all this?

Selfish reasons of course. Because not knowing about the rain means I have to prepare an entire PhilCast show just as if it is a normal broadcast day. But if there is a game, all my work is for nothing because we'll never get on the air with any of it. The Brewers will be too busy losing to the Cards.
(We're starting the "There's always next year" a little early this season)

Stay tuned this afternoon and we'll see what happens.

Terrible Tracks

Thursday, Apr, 9 2015

Time to blow the whistle on those terrible tracks, railroad crossings so rough that they jar your fillings loose when you drive across them.

This can't be good for our vehicles.

I suppose most of us have one or two crossings that we dread having to bounce over in our daily routines.

I know I have one that someone should be arrested for it's so bad.

Who's responsible and how do they get away with letting these things get so out of hand?

What can we do?
Who do we complain to about this?

I'll open the PhilCast on Thursday revealing my most horrible railroad crossing in the area and I'll be talking to someone from that city to give us all the scoop on how we get these kidney-busters fixed.
