Ray Waiter

As a reporter you are trained to leave your emotions at home when you set-out
to cover a story.  It makes professional sense.   I did that Wednesday morning as I
left to cover havoc wreaked by a powerful storm.  Later we learned the storm packed
winds of 90 to 100 miles an hour and spawned several lower-grade tornadoes.
One of the stories kept on coming back to me.   It was about a mother of two
young children whose second-floor apartment in Kaukauna lost a roof, leaving
them exposed to the elements of torrential rain and high winds.
She recalled laying on top of her daughters, protecting them, as debris was
swirling around before she fled to a lower level, seeking safety from the storm.   At
one point in the interview, the mother told me she lost everything.  In her words,
"I didn't have much, but I lost everything."
My emotions were in check, but a sense of compassion came over me as I
drove away to another location and another story.

Assignment Fox Cities

Tuesday, Aug, 6 2013

The Assignment Fox Cities on the Seymour Community Museum and General Store had
to be rescheduled.  You can now hear it Wednesday, August 7th, at 6:45 a.m., 12:45 p.m.
and 5:45 p.m.   It was a fun piece to do.  It's a fun piece to listen to.   Plan to spend some
time there when you attend Seymour's annual "home of the hamburger" Friday and
Saturday, August 9th and 10th.

Assignment Fox Cities

Monday, Aug, 5 2013

Outagamie county officials are developing a program to aid judges in making decisions
about children who are abused or neglected.  The program is called Court-Appointed
Special Advocates, or CASA.   Under the program CASA would function as a Guardian
Ad Litem, but as a volunteer lay person.   You'll find the story online at whby.com, under
Audio Vault.  Judge John Des Jardins hopes the program can be up-and-running by 2014.

Assignment Fox Cities

Saturday, Aug, 3 2013

The City of Seymour takes pride in its designation as the
"home of the hamburger."   It's equally as proud of its community
museum and general store.  Both offer a marvelous collection of
memorabilia, of the way things used to be.
To get a sampling of what is offered, listen to Assignment Fox
Cities Tuesday, August 6th, at 6:45 a.m., 12:45 p.m. and 5:45 p.m.
This year's celebration of "home of the hamburger" is set for
Friday and Saturday, August 9th and 10th.   Two days of food, fun and
family activities.   And set aside an hour or so for a visit to the museum
and general store, fun places to be.
