Assignment Fox Cities

Monday, Nov, 3 2014

Winnebago county parents and their teenage drivers have signed contracts
spelling-out rules of the road when behind the wheel.  The program is called
Parents Are The Key, a program designed to ensure young drivers practice
safe driving habits.
The contract provides no drinking and driving, no texting while driving,
staying within the speed limits, wearing a seat belt and a lot more.  Parents
agree to be good role models when they are behind the wheel.
Winnebago County Public Health Nurse Teresa Paulus and sheriff's
department Lt. Lori Seiler discuss Parents Are The Key in an Assignment
Fox Cities, posted on our website, whby. com.  You'll find it under
Audio Vault.
Give it a listen.  Have your teen driver listen, too.

Several thousand Fox Valley area high school students attended a
PARTY recently at the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center in Appleton.
There was no music nor food, only wholesome advice on how to
avoid impaired driving.
PARTY is an acronym for Prevent Alcohol and Risk-Related Trauma
In Youth, a program sponsored by Theda Clark Medical Center
Foundation.
One of the presenters was PaKou Xiong of Appleton, convicted of
homicide by negligent use of a motor vehicle.   The charge was
leveled after Xiong struck and killed a bicyclist while texting and driving.
In a voice cracking with emotion, Xiong urges her young audience
to avoid similar behavior.

and Assignment Fox Cities.

Samantha Schroth of Greenville suffered a paralyzing injury in a
freak accident while at a cottage in northwestern Minnesota in
May of 2013.   Spending time with friends, shortly after graduating
from the University of Minnesota, a large tree branch fell on her,
leaving her a paraplegic.
Undaunted, Sam, as most people call her, went on to capture
Ms. Wheelchair Wisconsin and Ms. Wheelchair America 2015.
Originally headed for a career as a veterinarian, Sam has
changed course.  She's applying to medical schools and wants
to become a physician treating people with spinal cord injuries.
Sam's inspiring story is set for broadcast on WHBY, Monday,
September 22nd, at 6:45 a.m., 12:45 p.m. and 5:45 p.m.
When you hear Sam's story, you, too, will be inspired.
