Mike Kemmeter's Bio
Birthplace: Stevens Point, Wis.

Education: UW-Stevens Point.

Family: My parents live in Stevens Point. My younger brother lives there too. My sister is in New York City.

What I Like About My Job: Every day is different. I never really know exactly what we'll be covering on a given day, because anything could happen. I also take our responsiblity seriously -- on a daily basis, we are reporting on stories that impact people's lives. We have to make sure we are accurate and fair.

Favorite Activities and Interests: I'm a big sports fan. I follow the Milwaukee Brewers very closely. The same goes for the Packers and Badgers basketball. I also like to hang out with my friends.

Favorite Music: I'll pretty much listen to anything. I'm almost always listening to talk radio when I'm in my car.

Favorite Movies: Major League, sports movies and comedies, and The Shawshank Redemption.

Favorite TV Shows: Curb Your Enthusiasm, Breaking Bad, The Wire, Seinfeld.

Favorite Books: I read a lot of newspapers, but not too many books.

Little Known Fact About You: I started my career as a sportswriter and helped found a weekly newspaper in Stevens Point, The Portage County Gazette. My parents are part-owners and I worked there as the sports editor for 1-1/2 years. I was also a part-time news reporter at a local radio station at that time, and moved to Madison to become a news reporter at a radio station there. While in Madison, I also worked part-time at the Wisconsin State Journal for about a year, covering high school sports.

Favorite Moment In Radio: Covering the verdict of the Mark Chmura trial in 2001. It was the first big story that I got to cover. I still have the media pass that they issued -- it says "State vs. Chmura." Getting to ride on the Goodyear blimp during the EAA AirVenture was probably the coolest thing I've been able to do for work so far.

Anything Else You Think We Should Know: Over the last several years, I've spent about a week during the summer going to different ballparks around the country. I've been to every current major league stadium, and 40 in all, including old ballparks. It took five years to initially see all of the existing parks, and I finished that in 2007 with a trip to U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago and the new Busch Stadium in St. Louis. Since then, I've just been catching up with new ones. In June of 2011, I spent a week in New York, watching the Brewers play the Yankees at Yankee Stadium, and going to a Mets-Yankees Subway Series game at Citi Field. During my trips, I also try to see unique minor league parks if it works out. Between games, there's usually plenty of time to stop and see other things like the Space Needle in Seattle, Dealey Plaza in Dallas, and New York City. It's really a fun way to see the country.
