A health care organization with three hospitals in the Fox Valley is cutting up to 250 jobs.

Ministry Health Care officials say they're necessary because high-deductible health insurance plans are leading to lower demand, and they lost $10 million in Medicare payments, through the sequestration cuts.

The job reductions will be spread across Ministry's 15 hospitals and 47 clinics. They include Saint Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton, Calumet Medical Center in Chilton, Mercy Medical Center in Oshkosh, and the Affinity Health System's 30 clinics.

Ministry officials say they'll eliminate the positions by not filling open positions, and through layoffs and retirements.

While the search for survivors continues in Moore, Oklahoma, the regional director for the American Red Cross in northeast Wisconsin says he knows first hand the horror a tornado leaves behind.

Steve Hansen says he went to Greensburg, Kansas in 2007, after an EF-5 tornado devastated that community. He says it takes your breath away.

Hansen says the images people are seeing are almost identical to what he saw.

Red Cross chapters in the region are awaiting word on whether local volunteers will be heading to Oklahoma.

The National Weather Service issued a "Tornado Emergency" yesterday, when the EF-5 tornado tore through Moore, Oklahoma.

That's a relatively new kind of warning, reserved for only the most severe storms. Meteorologist Jeff Last is with the National Weather Service's Green Bay office. He says it's only used when a particularly powerful tornado is approaching a heavily populated area.

The warning talks about the likelihood of catastrophic damage and loss of life. The National Weather Service brought the enhanced warnings to Wisconsin this year, but Last says he doesn't expect to use the tornado emergency very often. He says we only see that kind of tornado every 10 to 20 years.

Last says the last tornado that would qualify was an EF-5 that hit Oakfield in 1996.

A name change is on the way for the Thilmany paper mills in De Pere and Kaukauna.

Once the sale to KPS Capital Partners becomes final this summer, the Thilmany mills will be known as Expera Specialty Solutions. KPS is also giving the Expera name to its recently acquired mills from Wausau Paper, in Rhinelander and Mosinee.

The new company will have about 1,800 employees between the four mills, and it will be the largest producer of specialty paper in the U.S.

Thilmany vice president Russ Wanke will become Expera's CEO. He says they have a stable platform, that positions them for future growth.

A trucking company is consolidating three service centers into a larger facility in Fond du Lac.

One of the smaller Con-way Freight centers is in Neenah. Company officials announced their plans today for the $8 million project in a business park on Fond du Lac's south side.

Steve Jenkins is the president of that county's economic development corporation. He says it will be more cost-effective to have a single facility.

Jenkins says the move will bring about 100 jobs to the community.

Construction will start next month, and the project should be finished by March of next year.

Proposal could knock half off food stamps

Governor Walker wants people in the state's food stamps program to spend at least 20 hours a week searching for work or taking part in job training.

A report from the non-partisan Legislative Fiscal Bureau found more than 31,000 FoodShare recipients don't meet that requirement right now, and they would lose their benefits. That's about half of the people in the program.

Under proposed changes in unemployment, the governor also wants to increase the number of job applications recipients file each week from two to four.

Representative Dean Kaufert supports the governor's overall goal of bettering people's chances of getting a job. The Neenah Republican says lawmakers should include some flexibility with the time requirement for people who have multiple low-wage jobs, or deal with day care commitments.

The Joint Finance Committee will talk about the idea today.

33-year-old Jeremy Derks was convicted in March of homicide by driving drunk, after he entered a no contest plea and he'll spend an additional seven years on extended supervision.

Today is the one-year anniversary of the crash that left Richard Bielinski dead.

Winnebago County Judge Daniel Bissett handed down the prison term yesterday afternoon.

A gallon of regular unleaded is selling for $3.85 in Appleton, and Roy Hinz of AAA Wisconsin says that's up 35 cents from a month ago. He blames maintenance-related shut downs at refineries in Kansas and Illinois.

It's going to be a busy week on the road for Governor Walker.

He'll be on the campaign trail giving speeches in Connecticut, New York City, and Iowa. The stops come as the governor is being mentioned as a potential candidate for president in 2016, and Iowa would be an important state.

Walker says he visits other states that don't play a role in presidential politics, and he can still work a full day and make it over to the appearance in Iowa.

Walker will be in Iowa on Thursday.

The governor says he's still focused on leading Wisconsin. He says any event that helps raise his national profile could benefit the state by attracting new businesses.

The early success of the state girls basketball tournament at the Resch Center could help draw more sporting events to the Green Bay area.

That's the feeling of Brad Toll, the executive director of the Greater Green Bay convention and visitors bureau.

The WIAA moved the tournament to the Resch this year, and the organization's board wants to extend the contract through 2020.

Toll says that might make a difference, when they recruit events like USA Hockey or speedskating. He says they've always had one big argument in their corner -- the Green Bay Packers. Toll says some event organizers initially question whether the area can handle large sporting events, until they're reminded of the frequent home games.

It's a big weekend at UW-Madison for a family from Freedom.

Triplets Stephanie, Kyle, and Ashley Verhasselt are all graduating with different degrees.

Kyle says they all liked the school, when they first went to the campus. He says it's a pretty unique thing, but they really didn't realize it in the moment.

Kyle and Ashley went to Madison as freshmen, and Stephanie joined them after deciding on a major, while she was at UW-Fox Valley.

Kyle says they all had different groups of friends, but they met at least once a week for dinner or to hang out. Their brother, Adam, is a junior there.

Now they'll go their separate ways. Kyle took at job at a financial firm in the Greater New York City area, Ashley starts medical school in the state, and Stephanie will go into the social work field.

The state girls basketball tournament could stay at the Resch Center in the Green Bay area for years to come.

The WIAA's board voted unanimously today to start negotiating a lease, through 2020, with PMI Entertainment. The tournament moved from Madison, for the first time, this year.

Spokesman Todd Clark says they also want to keep the girls volleyball tournament at the Resch.

The WIAA originally signed a two-year contract with the Resch Center. Attendance was nearly 40,000 this year, and that's up about 30 percent, compared to last year in Madison.

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers also announced today that the team reached a deal to keep the state baseball tournament at Fox Cities Stadium, in Grand Chute, through 2020.
