Appleton school opens new fitness center

Students at an Appleton elementary school have a new fitness center.

Badger elementary received a $100,000 grant earlier this year, to buy equipment for the room.

Principal Tim Hopfensperger says it's a great addition for the school because in the past, the only workout area in the building was a small gym. In addition to phy ed classes, he says students with anxiety and behavioral issues will be able to use the fitness room. Hopfensperger says sometimes they need to blow off some steam.

The grant came from the National Foundation for Governor's Fitness Councils. Jake Steinfeld of "Body by Jake" is the chair. He says he added Wisconsin to the program, after he got a call from UW athletic director Barry Alvarez.

Governor Walker helped cut the ribbon for the fitness room, this morning.
