A poet from Appleton is the state's new poet laureate.
Karla Huston taught at Neenah high school for 15 years, and she has two degrees from UW-Oshkosh.
Huston says her goal is to travel the state for the next two years, and promote poetry and the arts. She hopes to work with people in smaller, rural areas.
Huston also wants to partner with Memory Cafes that hold events for people with dementia, and their caregivers.
Huston is the author of several poetry books.
The state's first poet laureate was from Appleton. The late Ellen Kort held that position for four years.
