The recount in last fall's presidential election is leading a local lawmaker to try to change the system.
Republican Ron Tusler of Harrison is authoring a proposal that would tighten the requirements. His bill would block candidates from paying for a recount, unless they finish within one percent.
Tusler says there are very accurate elections in the state, and he doesn't think people would be able to make up a difference of one percent.
Tusler believes Green Party candidate Jill Stein used last fall's recount as a fundraiser. She paid for it, but the donations to her campaign exceeded the bill.
Tusler says taxpayers would still cover the cost of recount, if the margin is 0.25 percent.
He says Governor Walker is on board with the bill.
