Mile organizers dealing with loss of Jones Park

The biggest outdoor venue won't be available for this summer's Mile of Music, and organizers hope to use a number of locations to compensate.

Jones Park is closed while the expo center in downtown Appleton is under construction.

Festival co-founder Dave Willems says they're working with the city and Lawrence University on two possible outdoor venues. He says they're also going to use the ballroom at the Radisson Paper Valley hotel and the Empire Room in the lower level.

Willems says they plan to hold more shows at Lawrence's Memorial Chapel and Stansbury Theatre as well. They could book more performances in existing venues, where they might have had some gaps in the schedule in the past.

Willems helped unveil the first 50 artists for this year's festival yesterday. It runs from August 3-6.
