G.C., L.C. in online contest for playground

A national group is offering money for a playground project, and two communities in the Fox Cities are in the running.

Little Chute and Grand Chute are among 51 entries in the Legacy of Play contest from the Kiwanis Club.

An online vote starts today. The contest will narrow the field to 10, and a Kiwanis Club panel will pick the winner.

Grand Chute planning director Mike Patza says they would build a playground in the new 20-acre Town Center Park, by the town hall. He says they're looking to do that next year.

Little Chute is planning a new park on the north side of the village. Parks and recreation director Adam Breest says they're going to seed the five-acre site this year, and they plan to build a playground and trails in the future.

Breest says kids in that area need a neighborhood park. He says right now, they have to cross over I-41, if they want to go to a park.
