Dogs will be allowed in Appleton parks soon
1 0

Appleton will let people bring their dogs into specific areas in parks.

The city council had a tie, 7-7 vote last night, and Mayor Tim Hanna broke the deadlock by voting "yes."

Dogs will only be allowed on sidewalks, trails, and roads. They're still banned from being on grass.

Ald. Kyle Lobner brought the issue back, after the council narrowly defeated a similar proposal last year. He says it's a good first step, and the city will join a number of other forward-thinking communities.

The council will have to approve the formal language of the change, before it actually takes affect.

Dogs would also have to be on a leash, up to eight feet long.

The proposal doubles the fines for having an unleashed dog, or not picking up after them.
