Gallagher wins title of 'fastest member of Congress'

The fastest member of Congress is from northeast Wisconsin.

Republican Congressman Mike Gallagher earned that title by becoming the first federal lawmaker to finish the annual Capital Challenge. The three-mile race was yesterday in Washington D.C.

Gallagher's time was 18 minutes, 36 seconds. He says he's not as fast as he was, when he was on active duty in the Marines. He says it was hard to keep up that pace.

Gallagher was eight seconds faster than Sen. Tom Cotton of Arkansas. Cotton held the "fastest member of Congress" title for four years.

Cotton is an Army veteran. Gallagher says there was a lot of "smack talk" between the two, leading up to the race.
