FVTC leader backs dumping tuition freeze

The leader of Fox Valley Technical College is backing a move by some lawmakers to dump Governor Walker's plan to freeze tuition at technical colleges.

President Susan May says it would've taken that authority from the state technical college board, and limited the flexibility of schools.

The Legislature's budget committee removed the freeze from the budget yesterday.

Members also want to increase funding for grants by $2.5 million a year. May says across the state last year, 19,000 people were eligible for grants, but there wasn't enough money for them.
