Local brewery weighs in on controversial idea

A Republican lawmaker believes a proposal that would affect breweries and wineries is dead, and a local brewery is weighing in.

There's been talk that some lawmakers might slip a provision into the budget, requiring breweries to sell their products through distributors.

Ben Fogle is a co-owner of Appleton Beer Factory on College Avenue in the downtown. He says it just seems wrong for breweries to have to hire distributors to take their beer, ship it around, and then buy it back for their own bar.

Rep. Dale Kooyenga of Brookfield says he's 99 percent sure the proposal isn't going anywhere.
