Rock the Block hits Doty Island

A program to spruce up neighborhoods gets underway today on Doty Island in Menasha and Neenah.

The local chapter of Habitat for Humanity is holding its latest Rock the Block.

Ryan Roth is the community development manager for the nonprofit. He says the program isn't just about home improvement, but also providing a boost to the neighborhood as a whole.

Roth says volunteers will help with about 30 projects through the weekend. They range from roofs, porches, and siding repairs.

Rock the Block started in the fall of 2015, and Habitat has already helped people in five areas.

The next event will be in the fall, in the neighborhood around Appleton's Columbus elementary school.
