There’s help for people who aren’t sure when to throw out leftovers.
The USDA has a special app called FoodKeeper. It can calculate if leftovers are good to eat, based on what’s in them, and when they were put in the fridge.
State ag department spokeswoman Leeann Duwe says it depends on what the temperature of the food has been, and how long it was sitting out.
She says people can also sign up to get notifications for recalls and alerts, and the app also has a food poisoning checker.
There’s an online option, if people don’t want to download the app to their phone.
