A graduate of Appleton East high school who lives in the Houston area escaped Hurricane Harvey without flood damage to her home.
Laura Moore, her husband, and their three children are in a suburb to the southeast. She says they’re very lucky.
Moore says people have been sleeping in hallways at four nearby elementary schools that became make-shift shelters. She says because school could restart on Tuesday, they’re searching for permanent places for some people. She says others are now able to get back in their homes to start the cleanup.
Moore was in the class of 2001 at Appleton East.
Moore says the water around their house was rising last Saturday night. She says it came up to their porch and garage, but it didn’t get inside. She says there were tornado warnings and flood warnings, throughout the night, and they were up with their kids. She says they would shift from the first floor during tornado warnings, to the second floor for flood warnings.
